Samsung SDS is furthering its collaboration with OpenAI by securing additional reseller rights for ChatGPT Edu.
ChatGPT Edu is a service provided to education-related institutions, including schools and publishers. It was designed not to utilize users’ conversations and responses (e.g., teachers and students) for the purposes of AI training, thereby ensuring data privacy and security.
Powered by the GPT-5 language model, this service offers a range of features: text comprehension and generation; coding; data analysis; web browsing; document summarization; and creating customized chatbots.
OpenAI designed ChatGPT Edu based on the experiences of major global universities using ChatGPT Enterprise. Currently, the service is utilized by the University of Oxford, University of London, the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and the National University of Singapore.
Through this collaboration, Samsung SDS plans to expand the service in earnest to include schools, publishers, and educational institutions that seek to introduce generative AI into educational and research fields.
Notably, Samsung SDS is currently conducting a Proof-of-Concept (PoC) aiming to provide ChatGPT Edu to Korea National Open University, which has approximately 90,000 students, faculty, and staff. The company will discuss the adoption of the service with the university following the PoC.
Following the signing of an OpenAI reseller partnership agreement in December of last year -- a first among Korean companies -- Samsung SDS has been providing customized AI transformation (AX) strategies.
The company has established an end-to-end AX system based on its ‘one-team’ support system covering AI consulting, development, and operation, as well as cloud and security. Integrated support will be provided for the entire process -- ranging from initial strategy development to AI full-stack design, introduction, enterprise-wide expansion, and advancing operations.
Additionally, Samsung SDS provides stable service environments by leveraging its AI infrastructure operation capabilities based on its own cloud services and GPU. The company’s security and data management capabilities, built across various industries, will support highly demanding data protection systems required by educational institutions.
Building on this, Samsung SDS has recently signed ChatGPT Enterprise supply contracts with major industry leaders in Korea, further solidifying its leadership in the enterprise generative AI market.
Recently, the company has signed contracts with major companies in the public, financial, manufacturing, retail, and service sectors, including Nexen Tire.
Viewing generative AI as a core tool in their corporate productivity, Nexen Tire has decided to adopt the service to enhance work efficiency in areas including knowledge searches and document creation.
Notably, mindful of the security risks associated with the individual use of AI, Nexen Tire has decided to adopt ChatGPT Enterprise through Samsung SDS to ensure enterprise-grade security and data management.
Jeong-heon Lee, Executive Vice President and Leader of the Strategic Marketing Office at Samsung SDS, said, “We believe ChatGPT Edu will create an environment where generative AI can be utilized more securely in an educational setting. Also, user experience will spread rapidly. Based on continuous collaboration with OpenAI, we will evolve beyond being a simple reseller to reinforce our role as an AX partner -- one who designs, expands, and supports enterprise AI operating systems.”
