Samsung SDS to Collaborate with NCCoE in the Migration to Post-Quantum Cryptography Project

+ To participate the Migration to Post-Quantum Cryptography project as the only Korean company
+ To secure future cryptography technology to respond to arising security threats in quantum computing
+ To support the conversion of cloud business system to post-quantum cryptography

Samsung SDS announced that it will take part in the Migration to Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) project hosted by the National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (NCCoE), part of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), as the only Korean company along with 13 other global vendors including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Cisco Systems and Microsoft.

PQC is regarded as a technology to replace the existing public-key encryption system that are threatened as quantum computing technology evolves.

This project aims to detect devices and applications equipped with existing cryptographic system that are vulnerable to quantum-based attacks, and to help migrate such system to PQC.

Samsung SDS will take part in the project by applying its cryptographic technology to the firewall products of its security subsidiary SECUI to detect vulnerabilities in the existing cryptographic methods and support the conversion process to PQC through research.

Moreover, as many companies are migrating the legacy systems to cloud, Samsung SDS plans to support the conversion of the existing cryptography system to PQC in customers’ cloud infrastructure and applications.

Samsung SDS also deepened its capabilities in PQC and homomorphic cryptograpghy with its experts in the security domain through its Security Research Center. The homomorphic cryptography, a technology that analyzes and processes data in an encrypted form to safely secure sensitive information such as personal information, is attracting attention along with PQC as a safe security technology.

Sangwook Lee, Executive Vice President and leader of Technology Research at Samsung SDS, said, “We look forward to contributing our security capabilities and technologies to the NCCoE’s Migration to PQC project and we will collaborate with other participating vendors in accelerating research on PQC technology and the product development.”

About the National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence
As part of NIST, the NCCoE is a collaborative hub where industry organizations, government agencies, and academic institutions work together to address businesses’ most pressing cybersecurity issues. This public-private partnership enables collaboration in the creation of practical cybersecurity solutions for specific industries, as well as for broad, cross-sector technology challenges. Through consortia under CRADAs, including technology partners, from Fortune 50 market leaders to smaller companies specializing in information technology and operational technology security, the NCCoE applies standards and best practices to develop modular, and easily adaptable example cybersecurity solutions by using commercially available technologies. The NCCoE documents these example solutions in the NIST Special Publication 1800 series, which maps capabilities to the NIST Cybersecurity Framework and details the steps needed for another entity to re-create the example solution. The NCCoE was established in 2012 by NIST in partnership with the State of Maryland and Montgomery County, Maryland. Information is available at https://www.nccoe.nist.gov.
