According to the report, the company expanded the information it releases to preemptively respond to mandatory disclosures, while complying with global standards. Additionally, a climate report was separately issued, comprehensively covering a wide range of environmental areas, including water resources, resource management, and biodiversity, in addition to climate change responses. Furthermore, detailed ESG information about the company’s listed subsidiaries was provided to strengthen external stakeholders’ trust. Check out the following brief introduction on Samsung SDS’s major outcomes and activities that have created tangible changes throughout all ESG areas over the past year.

ESG Performance : Environmental
First, in the environmental sector, Samsung SDS established SGMS, a greenhouse gas (GHG) emission management system, to systematically manage GHG. This system comprehensively manages waste and energy consumption, not to mention GHG emissions in scopes 1, 2, and 3, including those at the company’s overseas offices and subsidiaries. Additionally, the company plans to enhance its data credibility by obtaining Carbon Platform System (CPS) certification. The company is conducting further advanced activities to reduce GHG. The company is currently piloting and testing an immersion cooling system at the Dongtan Data Center. This cooling system is expected to save approximately 30% to 50% of energy compared to the existing air-cooling method. Including this, the company’s achievements in its GHG reduction have been verified as credible through third-party verification. Samsung SDS has set a goal to source 25% of its energy consumption from renewable energy by 2030 and is continuously working to achieve this target.

ESG Performance : Social
In the social arena, in order to reinforce Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), Samsung SDS created a global discussion body mainly led by its overseas offices and has conducted a DEI level diagnosis and campaign at the enterprise level. The company strengthened its position as an excellent company in health promotion by obtaining a health-friendly company certification and winning the Minister of Health and Welfare Award. Additionally, Samsung SDS created an IT Ethics Team to ensure the responsible use of AI technology; and has obtained the international standard AI management system (ISO/IEC 42001) certification. This has laid the foundation for ethical technology use suited for the AI era.

ESG Performance : Governance
Regarding governance, Samsung SDS changed the composition of its Independent Director Recommendation Committee to consist only of independent directors to make the board of directors more independent and expertise-oriented. Additionally, the agenda items handled by the ESG Committee have been expanded to cover information protection, AI, supply chain, health & safety, etc. To protect shareholder rights and interests and to increase communication, Samsung SDS newly opened the Shareholders Meeting page on its website and has expanded the scope of proxy solicitation to all shareholders.
