Samsung SDS defines the major stakeholders related to the management activities as the six groups:

Samsung SDS has built relationships based on strong trust by addressing the stakeholders' valuable opinions. Further, Samsung SDS is committed to solving the global challenges as a part of international community by achieving the UN SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals).

* UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) : In September 2015, the UN General Assembly adopted sustainable development goals in order to achieve social sustainability across the globe. Building on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) that were focused on less-development locations, the UN SDGs set universal goals that should be met by all locations including advanced ones, and thus demand full engagement of civil society and businesses in the private sector as well as governments and experts in attaining these goals.

    Samsung SDS contributes to solving poverty and inequality issues in global communities through cooperation with World Vision, a non-governmental organization established to support disadvantaged children, families, and communities worldwide.

    SDGs16. Establish and fair justice system for all
    • - To establish practices of transparent and fair transactions with partners, Samsung SDS uses electronic contracts that reflect the Standard Subcontractor Contract provided by the Fair Trade Commission. Electronic contracts based on the SmartTogether eliminate the possibility of oral orders and unfair cancellation of orders.
    • - Samsung SDS operates a labor-management committee, which consists of a total of 10 members with three-year office terms to establish sound labor relations through robust communication. The labor-management committee operates on a regular basis to improve company systems and working environment, as well as to perform grievance procedures through the committee’s communication channels. Further, the committee performs various activities to encourage the establishment of a sound corporate culture.

    SDGs7. Ensure access to sustainable energy for all

    To enhance the eco-friendliness of data centers, Samsung SDS is increasing the supply of renewable energy. Samsung SDS supplies the energy demand of its data centers with a variety of energy sources, including solar DHW systems, solar energy generation, geothermal air-conditioning, fuel cell technology, daylighting, and ground source heat pumps.

    For stable business operation of partners, Samsung SDS provides various financial support programs.

    SDGs9. Build resilient infrastructure, promote sustainable industrialization

    Nexledger, a blockchain platform of Samsung SDS, provides blockchain-based ID services and payment services with enhanced security. These services allow quick and convenient financial transactions while eliminating the danger of security threats and contributing to the enhancement of industrialization through high-quality sustainable services that can be trusted.

    Samsung SDS has been rated as a top tier enterprise in the "Win-Win Index" evaluations 3-year in a row since 2018 and was selected as the "honored enterprise in the win-win excellency."

    SDGs2. End hunger, Improve food security, and promote sustainable agriculture
    • - Samsung SDS provides poorly-fed local juveniles with meal boxes and meal-kits to help their balanced growth and development.
    • - Samsung SDS participated in "Donating Flower" relay campaign to help floriculturists suffering from the COVID-19 pandemic.
    • - Samsung SDS opened a online marketplace for employees to help agricultural and fishery businesses suffering from COVID-19

    SDGs3. Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages
    • - Samsung SDS is putting priority on the safety of its employees. To prevent the spread of infectious diseases and protect the health of employees, Samsung SDS has sequentially implemented telecommuting and started rotational telecommuting from 2020.
    • - To promote the mental health of employees, Samsung SDS operates a "Mental Shelter." The consultation takes place in a location and at a time that the employee feels most convenient, and confidentiality of the consultation is strictly guaranteed.

    SDGs4. Ensure quality education and promote life-long learning opportunities for all
    • - Samsung SDS allows for easy access to the AI analysis through Brightics Studio, an open-source version of Brightics AI, which is an analytics platform for large amount of data.
    • - Samsung SDS operates field training programs for developers to grasp rapidly changing IT technology trends. In 2020over 1,000 employees completed the training programs.
    • - Samsung SDS has been providing the "Special Course on Algorithms for University Students" for university and graduate students. Samsung SDS employees provide comprehensive lectures and practice sessions on programming algorithms.
    • - Through a collaborative effort with JA Korea, one of the non-government organizations specialized in education of juveniles, Samsung SDS operates a customized coding education program called the "Coding Campus."
    • - To promote human rights honoring culture, Samsung SDS provides training courses for preventing harassment, sexual assault, and verbal or physical violence at the workplace. Samsung SDS also runs campaigns for promoting human rights, especially for the leaders.

    SDGs5. Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls
    • - Samsung SDS provides paid paternity leaves and encourages male employees to take childcare leave in recognition of the value of work and life balance.
    • - At Samsung SDS, employees are not discriminated against due to their sex, age, race, or places of birth.
    • - The number of female senior managers and executives is increasing each year.

    Samsung SDS actively participates in the protection of natural resources for future generations and conducts activities to respond to climate change.

    SDGs6. Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all

    To diminish the amount of harmful waste and waste water, Samsung SDS operates a system for managing water usage. Waste water from the establishment goes through preliminary processing in septic tanks before it is processed again in sewage treatment plants, and management activities, such as cleaning and disinfection of septic tanks and water quality tests, are performed on a regular basis.

    • - Samsung SDS continues to monitor the generation and discharge of waste by the building or data center, making a ceaseless effort to reduce waste generation and increase the recycling rate. At Samsung SDS, all outdated laptops and monitors are collected by recyclers, and employees participate in annual collection campaigns for unused mobile phones to increase the recycling rate of electronic products.
    • - All outdated racks and other unused IT equipment of data centers are fully recycled, and each quarter, Samsung SDS manages the amount of the recyclable waste. Especially for metal and rare metal waste, a dissolution process is used to ensure a 100% recycling of the reusable resources.
    • - Samsung SDS continues to make recommendations to employees to adapt the ideas of sustainable development and balanced life by creating paperless work environments and increasing the use of recycled products, while avoiding the use of disposables.

    SDGs13. Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts

    Since 2016, Samsung SDS has been participating in the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) to cooperate with the international effort to cope with climate change and enhance the awareness of the interested parties by sharing strategies and achievements.

    SDGs14. Protect and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources

    Cello Trust, a blockchain logistics system, created by Samsung SDS transparently shows transaction records such as logistics routes. By including the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) as one of the "validators," Samsung SDS contributes to the reduction of illegal poaching of fish.
